DFDS seaways offer crossings which leave Portsmouth at 23-00 and arrive at 08-00. I've noticed that their fares often change nearer to the time of sailing and it's worth checking their website a few times before booking as you may get a better deal. This is only if you don't mind leaving your arrangements to the last minute and is not necessarily the case in the high season!
One of the best things about the trip from Le Havre to Orchard Gites is that you cross the River Seine via the breathtaking Pont de Normandie.

Having crossed the bridge you can then continue on the motorway towards Caen but why not take the coast road and call in to one or two of the pretty seaside towns en route.
At the first exit, immediately after the bridge, you can take the road to Honfleur and within minutes you will be in the heart of this picturesque old town. It is popular with tourists but is at it's best first thing on a summer's morning when it is still quiet. Buy some 'pain au chocolat' from a boulangerie and enjoy the view of the harbour

You can take a pathway from the panorama point down to the beach - beware it is a bit of a climb back up but there are several benches so that you can take a moments rest!

It is really worthwhile taking the time to explore this lovely stretch of coastline to put you in the holiday mood!
